Fargo, ND

Well, we got to Fargo just in time for the Fargo Marathon!  Think we'll pass.  Yesterday (Friday) we made an easy trip from Aberdeen, SD to Fargo, ND with only a short stop at Dakota Magic.  One of the many casinos which the Indians operate in order to take their nation back one quarter at a time.  Oh, if only it were just a quarter, but it was a nice stop and a well-appointed casino. When we made reservations to be here for this weekend, we found it almost impossible to get the three nights we needed.  We weren't sure what the draw was for this weekend, but I guess the Fargo Marathon was a big part of the busy weekend.  Fargo Inn was available and it's centrally located.

We checked into the Fargo Inn after having lunch at Panera and got settled in.  Made the short trip out to the north to check out Holy Cross cemetery.  Both Vi's parents are buried there as is Ed (Vi's brother) who left this world way too soon.  The cemetery is gradually being surrounded by Hector Airport and you turn on the road right at the Nevada Air National Guard area.  It is a quiet, well maintained and has lots of trees.

Called Karen and went over to visit with her.  While Vi caught up with Karen, I took the Red Baron for a car wash.  He cleans up nicely.  After visiting with Karen, we connected with Ken and Melanie and made arrangements to have dinner at the Long Horn Saloon.  After a great dinner, we went back to Karen's apartment for some wine and conversation.

I would always love to have a tape recorder to record our conversations.  It's so much more detailed and more personal than what we find on Ancestry.com.  One of the interesting facts here is the multiple persons with the same birthday.  Ed, Tim and Christie (Ed's niece) all share June 4th.  Then Vi, Christopher (Melissa's son), and Asher (Melissa's grandson) all have April 30th.  It's so seldom that we get together that it's fun to reminisce and share memories. Afterwards (much later), it was back to the Fargo Inn for the night.

Today is Gunnar's graduation this afternoon.  Tom and Carolyn arrive this morning on their way back from their Utah great adventure.  They can share their trip memories with Ken and Melanie who have just made somewhat the same trip on their way back to North Dakota from their winter in Arizona.  It'll be fun to have Tom III get reacquainted with the Fargo group.  I think the last time that he and Char were here was when they were both kids.
